1v1 chat · text first, video on choice

1v1 chat — the conversation before the camera.

One person, one room, and no rush to turn anything on. Pick someone from the people who are online, open a private conversation, and let the first few minutes be text.

A list, not a wheel

Most “chat with strangers” products spin a wheel and hand you whoever it lands on. This one shows you the people who are online and lets you decide. That one design choice changes the rest of the experience: you are choosing a person, not accepting a draw.

Instant matching still exists if you would rather not choose. It is an option on top of the list, not a replacement for it.

What the two formats feel like

The difference is easiest to see side by side.

Choosing from the list

  • You see a profile before you commit
  • You can pick someone whose interests match yours
  • Slower to start, better hit rate
  • You can return to the same person later in a session

Instant matching

  • One tap, no browsing
  • You meet whoever is next
  • Faster to start, more misses
  • Good when you do not want to decide

The first message decides the next ten

A one-word opener gives the other person nothing to work with, and most people will not do the work for you. A specific question — about their evening, their city, something visible in their profile — is answerable without effort, which is why it gets answered.

The second message matters almost as much. If the reply is short, ask one more real question rather than repeating yourself. If it stays flat, move on quietly; there is no obligation on either side.

Text is the whole product, not a waiting room

Some sessions never turn on a camera, and that is a normal way to use the site. Text chat is free, it costs nothing to keep going, and plenty of conversations are better without video.

Video is there for when a conversation has momentum and both people want to see who they are talking to. The camera never turns on by itself.

Leaving well

Every room comes with an exit. You can end a conversation at any point without an explanation, and the other person can do the same. Nothing about that is rude — it is the format.

What is worth avoiding is the slow fade: staying in a room you have already left mentally. A clean exit is kinder than three-word replies for twenty minutes.

Straight answers

Is 1v1 chat the same as random chat?

Not quite. Random chat usually means instant matching with whoever is next. Here the default is a list you choose from, with instant matching as an option.

Do I have to pay to chat?

No. Browsing and text chat are free. Coins only apply to longer private video calls, and the price is shown before you confirm.

Can I stay in text forever?

Yes. There is no time limit on text and no requirement to turn on a camera at any point.

What happens if the other person stops replying?

You can leave the room and return to the list. No explanation is needed or expected.

Can a third person join the conversation?

No. The room is for two people, and nobody else can enter it once it is open.
