private video chat · what privacy actually means

Private video chat — who can see the room, and who cannot.

“Private” gets used to mean almost anything. On this site it means something specific and limited, and it is worth knowing exactly where the boundary sits before you rely on it.

Who can join, who can see

The boundary is simple: the room holds two people, and there is no mechanism for a third to enter or observe. There is also no public feed of conversations, so nothing you say is posted anywhere.

QuestionAnswer
Can a third person join the room?No
Is there an audience or viewer count? No
Are conversations posted publicly?No
Can the other person screenshot or record?Technically yes — see below
Can the platform see the room?Basic account and session records exist; the privacy policy covers what is retained

What privacy does not cover

Privacy is not anonymity. A camera shows your face, your voice is recognisable, and anything visible behind you is visible to the person you are talking to.

It also does not stop the other person from taking a screenshot. That is true of every video product ever built, and the only real defence is to behave as if it could happen: check the background, and do not do anything on camera you would not want captured.

Leaving is part of privacy

A room you cannot leave is not private. Either person can end a conversation at any moment, and neither owes the other an explanation for it.

This matters more than it sounds. Knowing the exit is always available is what makes it possible to start a conversation with a stranger at all.

The camera is opt-in, always

Every conversation starts in text. The camera turns on only when both people have agreed to a video call, and staying in text indefinitely is a normal way to use the site.

If someone insists on video before you are ready, you can decline or leave. That is a preference, not a rule you have broken.

What to keep private anyway

Even in a private room, some things should stay out of a first conversation: your full name, your address, your workplace, your phone number, and anything that could identify where you live.

Payments stay inside the product. Nobody legitimate needs your card details, and a request for payment outside the site is a scam regardless of how the conversation got there.

Privacy questions

Can the other person record the call?

Recording without permission is against the rules, but no video product can prevent a phone pointed at a screen. Assume it is possible and behave accordingly.

Is the conversation stored publicly?

No. There is no public wall or feed, and conversations are not published. The privacy policy describes what records the service keeps.

Can I use the site anonymously?

You do not have to give your real name to chat, and you can stay in text. But a camera shows your face, so anonymity has limits.

How do I leave a conversation?

One tap ends the room and returns you to the list. No explanation is required by either side.
